Tesco Santa’s AR Grotto
At Christmas time, it’s tradition to go to a local mall and visit Santa. But in 2020, children couldn’t visit the grotto, so we brought the grotto to them.
An immersive AR experience for retailer Tesco.

Santa’s First Message
Ho ho ho Merry Christmas! A whole year since I saw you, now look how big you’ve grown!
I know 2020 has been a bit of a strange year. And we didn’t get to see you like normal, So because you might not have been able to come visit my grotto this year – we’re bringing the grotto to you! Those cheeky elves wanted to come along too but they would just raid your cupboards and eat all your goodies and we can’t have that now, can we?
So you must be itching to know if you are on the naughty list or the nice list…. As always, I’ve been watching!
I saw how hard it was doing your sums and spellings all by yourself at home – and you never gave up.
And I noticed how you were ‘extra good’ when you heard that trick or treating would be a bit different this year.
Even though Halloween wasn’t the same, you mustn’t worry about Christmas, because nothing can stop Christmas! After the year we’ve all had, (with definitely not enough hugs) I have some big news – this Christmas there’s No Naughty List.
So I’m going to make you a promise – I will visit children all across Ireland on the 25th of December. So make room under the tree and hang your stockings, because Santa never breaks a promise.
Santa’s Messages
“I’ve got nearly all the Santa lists; the elves are giddy in the workshop getting glue and wrapping paper stuck everywhere; and Mrs. Clause is busy planning my route (she is the boss of course!)”
— Santa
“I will be flying past the moon and the stars through the whole night until sunrise. Easy for a whippersnapper like myself – if I’ve had my coffee! ”
